Season is just about to start and the Hall of Fame Classic in Springfield, Mass is about 7 weeks away.

I'm hoping to go, anyone else?

Not a big spectator of vball - I mostly like to play it. I do see highlights of the Italian pro league every week on "Non solo calcio", but it's sort of hard to follow since all the clubs are named after their sponsors instead of cities. If I'm not mistaken, the pro game is very popular and successful in Trieste.

The rec leagues I play in are apparently making the move toward rally scoring and 25-point games as is the current norm for competitive vball. I've never played rally, but I understand it makes comebacks from a steep deficit next to impossible anymore.

I played about 6 weeks ago. I think I hyper-extended my knee and the bike riding is making it hurt a bit.

We played with rally scoring in game 3 of best of 3 matches. I didn't mind it, as it was quick, but we had 3 big servers and we could usually pound teams pretty good.

Pro game: I thought they used the same names as the soccer teams in most cases. I think Perugia has an American playing for them.

I played for my HS for two years. Sophomore year, we used sideout scoring, and junior year, rally scoring and the libero.

I liked it better Sophomore year.

I have never played with the libero. How do the rotations work?

Are you going to the Hall of Fame Classic in February?

    Fraid not.

Libero's just another defensive position who can be subbed without notice. When it's time for him to rotate front-row, they pull him. I think he can go in in-between any two players too.

Oh well, we're going to the tournament. I once worked the Norceca tournament in New Orleans back in 1993. Had a great time, and the Canadians gave me some nice t-shirts.

I'll have to watch this libero bit, I'm not sure I'm in favor of it, but it does give the little man a chance to play.

The libero is a defensive substitute with limitations..

    1. Libero is a back row substitution only.. Usually (on my team anyway) the libero is used for the weakest passer and defender on the court in the back row, in most cases, this is usually a middle blocker..

    2. Libero can never serve..

    3. Libero can never attack..

    4. LIbero can never set an attack with his hands when in front of the ten-foot line (or 3 meter line depending on how interperated).. However, a libero can hand set from behind the ten-foot line and can bump set while in front of the ten-foot line..

I've been playing on the National level for over 10 years now and the libero has been a blessing for the game.. It adds more precision passing and defense and makes the game move along better..

I'm also a big fan of the 25 point rally scoring.. I used to be a big detractor because the games would be over a lot quicker and sometimes the better team doesn't always win in regards to earning points thru the side out system, but in the end, the better teams prevail anyway..

    Thanks Cweedchop for the explanation.

I'll be checking out some vball in February.
